Our Story

The Urban Dippers swimming class was established in 2022 with the aim of providing Black and Brown families the opportunity to learn how to swim.

Historically, these communities have faced significant barriers to accessing swimming pools, contributing to a higher incidence of drownings each year.

The initiative was designed to enable a family of six to learn swimming skills together. To ensure personalized attention and effective learning, two instructors are assigned to work with each family over a seven-week period.

The program has achieved remarkable success rates. In addition to offering essential swimming lessons, participants are provided with swim caps designed to accommodate all hair types and a pair of goggles. This not only enhances their safety but also opens up new opportunities for them to enjoy water-based activities.
